If the concentrations of dissolved substances such as acids, bases, and ions in the electroplating baths become too low, they must be re-added accordingly to maintain the solutions concentration.

 

Why Is There a Need to Automate the Monitoring of Dissolved Substances?

Although automated titrators independently add titrant, detect the end point, and calculate results, there are still a lot of manual steps involved in the process. The titration process can be fully automated using a sampling valve that automatically takes an exact amount of sample from the electroplating bath.

In this application note, the concentration of sodium hydroxide in an electroplating sample is determined in a fully automated titration process. The liquid is directly sampled from the electroplating bath into the titration beaker using the TV6 sampling valve. The measurement of sodium hydroxide merely serves as an example. It is possible to apply the same procedure to different type of titrations too (e.g. chloride determination).
